Record recycling rates at London City Airport

We are proud to be providing our recycling and waste management collection services to one of Europe’s largest construction companies BAM Nutall as part of their work on the London City Airport’s £480 million expansion project.

airportThe McGrath Group have been supporting BAM Nutall for over a year on this major construction project achieving a 99.3% recycling rate for all of the waste material that has been collected to date.

Once completed this major expansion project will significantly change the face of London City Airport. The transformation aims to improve passenger experience whilst creating an airport for the future with world-class facilities, equipped to handle 6.5 million passengers annually. The expansion will quadruple the size of the existing airport and will include the creation of the UK’s first Digital Air Traffic Control Tower, a new full length parallel taxiway, eight new aircraft stands and extension of the main terminal buildings.

The airport will use the latest energy technology and construction techniques to achieve a BREEAM very good rating. The expansion will also create even more opportunity for it’s local community with more jobs, more school engagement and increased investment in it’s supply chain and contracts.

With the location of the airport being in close proximity to our MRF in Barking we are delivering skips of all sizes with same day service as required. Much of the construction work is carried out through the night and therefore all collections are arranged to suit this schedule using our latest digital communication systems.

Our container services cater for the client’s requirements for strict segregation of all waste on site including plastic, wood and mixed waste. To manage this segregation, we supply a variety of sized skips with lockable lids and 20-yard ROROs to accommodate larger volumes of waste. All waste is transported to our MRF for reprocessing.

Scott Wood, McGrath’s Business Development Manager said “Our client was extremely impressed with both our service and recycling levels achieved previously at London’s Crossrail project in Farringdon and we are therefore delighted to be helping them once more at this major expansion project at London City Airport. We take great pride in achieving such outstanding recycling rates and with our digital data capture systems we provide complete chain-of-custody reporting from collection to final destination for all waste received.”
