Meet Lisa Christie, McGrath’s Customer Service Supervisor who has been with the company for 16 years.

Lisa ChristieDid you have any experience of the waste industry before McGrath?

Prior to starting at McGrath’s, I worked at another skip hire company so in total I have over 20 years’ experience in the waste industry. A lot has changed during that time and certainly with the arrival of new technology and equipment over the years.

Have you had any other roles at McGrath in your 16 years here?

Yes, most definitely! When I joined McGrath, I started off as an Assistant Controller and then progressed to a Controller role. Within these roles I was responsible for certain parts of McGrath’s logistics including fleet and waste collections making sure that everything ran as efficiently as possible for each and every one of our clients. As part of this job I would also handle all relevant health and safety documentation required by site. A significant project of note whilst working as McGrath’s Controller included the supply of skip hire services to London Olympics site organising the logistics whilst ensuring we met with all of the required security and access procedures on site.

Tell us a little about your current role?

After 10 years as Controller I thought I would like to progress within the company to the accounts department. As part of my current role I am responsible for our clients invoicing with digital reporting provided from our weighbridge open 24/7.

My day usually consists of checking all tickets from our weighbridge and drivers, then running various reports to check pricing, weights and purchase orders and liaising with my colleagues to ensure we have everything correct. We provide weekly invoicing so it’s important that all the information is to hand. Obviously, there are deadlines to work to so it can often be even busier than usual at certain times each month too!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I do find the recycling side of things interesting, it’s something that is changing and developing all the time.

I also enjoy carrying out training for new employees on key systems and getting them up to speed on all of our services including our fleet and skip sizes.

And outside of work what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of work I enjoy spending my spare time with family – I have two grandchildren who keep me very busy.
