Road Safety Champions
McGrath continue as CLOCS Road Safety Champions in London, protecting vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists that share the road with construction vehicles.
As a CLOCS Champion, McGrath operate to the national CLOCS (Construction, Logistics and Community Safety) Standard which aims to eliminate the risk of heavy goods vehicles working in construction from harming vulnerable road users. CLOCS represents a diverse group of stakeholders from the entire construction sector.
In 2015 alone, HGVs comprised only 4% of urban traffic miles in London but were involved with 20% of pedestrian fatalities and 78% of cyclist fatalities. However, with collaborative action from regulators, clients, principal contractors and fleet operators, the construction industry has seen a dramatic 47% reduction in casualties when implementing CLOCS.
McGrath’s entire fleet and operators are fully briefed and committed to ensuring all journeys are compliant with the CLOCS Standard, whilst also successfully meeting requirements to FORS Silver Standard, an accreditation scheme that aims also to improve fleet activity in London, throughout the UK and beyond.
Business Director, Tara Donaghy, responsible for developing the company’s transport resources said “We are proud to be championing the CLOCS standard at McGrath, working in London with one of the busiest road networks in the world it is essential that we have every system in place to ensure our fleet operate in the safest way possible. It’s extremely positive to see the impact CLOCS is having in making the roads safer for all vulnerable road users”.
