McGrath supports World Environment Day
In June this year, Ferrovial Agroman Laing O’Rourke (FLO), principal contractor on the Thames Tideway Tunnel, ran a week-long celebration in support of World Environment Day. The day was an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), seeking to make the biggest global call and mobilisation for positive environmental action.
Part of FLO’s plans was to run a competition for operatives working on the Thames Tideway Tunnel project who had to complete a quiz and propose an environmental innovation for the construction site. As the nominated waste management/recycling contractor to the Central and East sections of the project, McGrath was delighted to support the competition with a prize and chose to donate an Ultimate Adventures gift card worth over £150 enabling the winner to go on an adventure day of their choosing.
Scott Wood, McGrath’s Business Development Manager, having handed over the prize to Eilidh Johnston, Environmental Advisor to the Tideway project, commented, “We are always keen to support environmental initiatives of this kind and with the Tideway project being so fundamental to the clean-up of the River Thames it was an obvious choice for us.”
The McGrath Group is fully committed to the concept of sustainability, recognising that the environment, communities and cultures within which it operates are vital to the success of the business. It aims to deliver sustainable solutions and is dedicated to improving sustainability performances that not only help clients meet their objectives but also contribute to creating a low carbon economy and supporting thriving, vibrant communities in the process.
Once completed, the Thames Tideway Tunnel will collect sewage before it enters the river and ensure it is properly treated, cleaning up the river for future generations of Londoners.
