On course to raise funds

McGrath was very happy to support Rehab Group in June this year by sending a team of budding golfers to their 25th Anniversary Golf Event at Moor Park.

The Rehab Group is a charity that provides services for over 20,000 adults and children, and champions the value of diversity and inclusion for people with disabilities in their communities throughout Ireland and the UK. The Rehab UK Golf Classic was first held back in 1993 and was established by Mayo man Pat Ruddy and a group of fellow businessmen.

The Belmullet native is still at the helm and he and his hard-working committee have so far raised in excess of £920,000 for the charity, and were hoping to hit the £1 million mark this year. The funds raised go to equip those affected by brain injury and other disabilities with the skills they need to face the numerous challenges that lie ahead of them, to return to work, and in doing so, giving them the independence, dignity and self-respect that goes with it.

Among those hitting the fairways this year were former world light-heavyweight boxing champion John Conteh and former Tottenham, Blackburn and England footballer David Bentley.

Kathleen O’Meara, Director of Communications and Fundraising for Rehab Group commented: “Your participation and support makes a significant difference to the work we do for people who have acquired a brain injury.  This annual event raises money while providing an enjoyable day out and I hope that McGrath will continue their support in the coming years.”
